Barcelona confirms payment of Neymar's €222m release clause

Barcelona have confirmed the payment of Brazilian international
Neymar's €222m release clause. Which paves the way for the player to
PSG of France.

Attempts by the player's representatives to lodge payment with La Liga
was rejected earlier on Thursday.

A position that was later criticised by the French Ligue 1 which urged
the Spanish football league to abide by FIFA rules regarding
transfers, as they had no right to reject any attempt for the release
clause to be paid.

Now the payment was instead passed on to the club.

It marks a remarkable conclusion to a transfer that started as a
modicum rumour, but has turned out to produce the most expensive
player in world football. And it totally trumps the £89m Manchester
United paid for Paul Pogba just a year ago.

What this means is that technically, Neymar is now a free agent, and
is free to sign for PSG. He is expected to complete the transfer in
the next 24 hours.

The player leaves after scoring 105 goals in four years in Barcelona
with Two la liga titles, one Champions League and three Copa de reys.

The domino effect of the transfer would only start to unravel, with
inflation of transfer fee a natural consequence of Neymar's sale to
the French club.
