Ahead of Premier League Wednesday's match between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield, the reds manager has spoke glowing of Arsene Wenger. The former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund manager praised the Frenchman for his longevity in the Premier League in spite of the evolution that has taken place over the years.
Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool in October, and Arsene Wenger would be 20 years at the helm at Arsenal in September this year. That the Liverpool manager sees as something special especially when the intensity of the league is taken in consideration.
“My respect [for him] goes up day by day,” Klopp said in his pre match press conference “It’s really intense to work in the Premier League, especially in a team with international matches too. He always had my biggest respect but now it’s a little bit bigger since I’ve been here.
“It’s a really brilliant job what he has done for about 19-and-a-half years. He’s a high quality manager, one of the best in the world for sure.
“It’s really rare that you can do this - but he has. He’s a football maniac in the best understanding.
“It's always a challenge to play against him but I’m looking forward to it.”
Both Klopp and Wenger have an history, they met on six occasions in the group stages of the Champions League while the German was manager of Dortmund. Arsenal won three of those fixtures, with the Germans winning two. While the other ended in a draw.
