Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez is
expected to miss the club’s next two games against Sunderland in the FA cup
third round on Saturday and the league clash against Liverpool
at Anfield next week Wednesday. This is after failing to sufficiently recover
from a hamstring injury. The Chilean suffered the injury against Norwich in November. He
was initially scheduled to return for the match against Manchester City
in December, but suffered a setback in training. The club has decisively opted
to adopt a cautionary line with the 26 year old to avoid further setback ahead
of the business end of the season.
Speaking on the player’s condition,
Arsene Wenger confirmed thus
“Sanchez
is a bit short to be involved in the squad, but he’s not far”
Arsenal have coped well in his
absence winning all, but one match which was the defeat against Southampton on Boxing Day. However, no player offers what
the Chilean gives to the Arsenal side in the final third and defensively as his
work rate is unrivalled.
With the spate of setbacks that
have played other players recovering from injuries especially Jack Wilshere and
Danny Welbeck, it does not come as a surprise that his comeback is being
deliberately delayed.
However, he should be available for
the trip to the Britannia to face Stoke
City a week on Saturday.
