In a statement on social media;
"This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of this season," He said
"Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve. I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch."
The former Czech republic international arrived from Rennes in 2004 to join Chelsea, and he was instrumental in goal as the Stamford Bridge outfit won three Premier League titles, but he lost his place to Thibaut Courtois in 2014, which resulted in a move to Arsenal in 2015.
His time at the Bridge fetched him four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two league cups, a Champions League and Europa Cup. During his time at Arsenal, he won the FA Cup for the fifth time in 2017.
His departure means Arsenal would either decide to promote a goalkeeper from within its youth setup or go into the transfer market to get a replacement as Benard Leno was signed last summer in anticipation of such an announcement.
