Mohammed Salah wins African player of the year.

Liverpool attacker and Egyptian international Mohammed Salah has been voted the African player of the year for the second consecutive year.

The 26 year old beats Liverpool team mate Sadio Mane and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to retain the award.

He scored 44 goals for the Merseysiders in his first season at Anfield and scored two goals for Egypt at the World Cup in Russia despite his lack of fitness during the tournament.

He joins an exclusive group of players who won the award back to back during their playing days such as Yaya Toure of the Ivory Coast, El Hadji Diouf of Senegal and Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon.

With his form this season for Liverpool, with 13 goals in the league and a further three in the Champions League, he is in a good position to win a third consecutive title if he can lead hid country to the Afcon title on home soil in July.
